Well, I told people I would start a substack. So here we go. For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Serg. I like stories about Crime and Monsters. I have other interests too, and I will write about them. This space is really just a catchall for stuff I don’t feel like posting on Twitter. I’ll try to keep people updated on the books, comics, movies, tv shows I go through.
I just started Ring Shout, so I don’t have much to say about that right now. I really liked Lovecraft Country so we’ll see how this stacks up against it.
As far as watching Mad Men, it’s a weird show. It’s basically a story about how dude’s rock. Like they’re all terrible but they’re the vehicle by which you see this show and the world and they’re meant to be sympathetic even though they all kinda suck. The girls are ok, but they’re all subject to the whims of men cause of the times…therefore, It’s a deep exploration of just how dude’s rock and sometimes you’re like oh man, dudes definitely don’t rock.
Cidade Invisivel is cool so far. It’s sorta like what if the “myths” and folktales of Brazil were real? But that gets a bit uncomfortable when you remember all these things are part of the folk culture of Brazil. That aside, it’s like…American Gods but in Brazil. I don’t know why Netflix has decided to just publish a bunch of cool supernatural mystery-type shows but it rules and it’s extremely my shit. I’ll post about some of the other ones I was into at some point in the future.
Earlier this month I wrote a thing on Ridley Scott's Raised by Wolves. I really enjoyed that show and season 2 is coming out at some point. So that’s fun. I’ve never really done “writer stuff” beyond school papers, so that was a blast. I’m working on another piece about a comic I like. So maybe I’ll continue doing writer things. Time will tell.
Anyways, this is the introduction. Not much to say right now. I’ll try to update this regularly. So hope you think it doesn’t suck.
